Letter 1: On Old Times

Updated: Feb 29, 2024

Dear sister,

I hope you are all fine. I have decided to write you a letter rather than sending you a text message this time. Why are you doing this, you wonder? Well, it was about time, you see. I wanted to take time, sit down and properly reflect about what I wanted to tell you.

I feel today not many people do take their time anymore and savour it, unfortunately. Everyone, everything is caught up in a rushing swirl, and no one does really pay attention to how their time ebbs away anymore. When we do receive a message, we tend to reply to it as quickly as we can, afraid that we will be labelled ‘uncaring’, or ‘not-bothered-enough’, if we do not do so. But, you see, by not biding time the quality of that message is not bound to be very good - and indeed the quality of it has so much decreased! But I can see this same pattern reflected in almost everything else, sister; from base objects to the inner character of people.

That is why I am taking my time, this time, to write you a proper letter. I sat down and I actually thought about what I wanted to tell you. What are the important things really worth of mention? What are those that we can’t let go into the dustbin of oblivion? We are always so afraid of missing something out; in truth, I tell you, the more we miss out, the better we feel. How much futile anxiety this causes; we really do not need it.

So please, sister, do take your time. Not only in replying to this letter, but in everything you do. Time does not come back; do use it wisely and effectively, only for what is really worthwhile.

All best,

Melody
